Rounds 3 & 4 of Da Shootout!

With another day of classic contest-worthy surf...Da Shootout was in full speed with 8-10ft sick surf with surfer's flying out of spit-firing barrels and more. With rounds 3 & 4 in da bag, we now have a new Sheriff In Town of the Da Hui Shootout....within the middle of round #4 , Kaua'i's own and Volcom team member, Bruce Irons, surfed past Red Bull's, Jamie O'Brien, to take the lead with 127.2 pts. Jamie's in 2nd with a total of 120.4. Ola Eleogram is in 3rd with 109.1. Marcus Hickman is in 4th with 107.9 pts and Da Hui's, Myles Padaca - who put on a show for crowds & judges by shooting through barrels of big Pipe and da Backdoor during both rounds. His scoring then placed Myles in a tie for 5th with Quiksilver's, Mark Healy with a total for each surfer at 106.9. However, with the 2 highest wave tie-breaker, Mark leads with 75.2 and Myles 75.1.

So for tomorrow, Saturday, 1/12 - contest is on stand-by as we'll need to see what kind of waves Mother Surf will bring us once again. She's been very kind to us and hope for one more day of choice surf. First thing in the morning, competitors will take a vote on what they'd like to do. Surf or No Surf. If YES, then we'll go for a few more rounds. If the vote is "NO"....then the 2008 Da Hui Backdoor Shootout will officially come to a close with an awards ceremony taking place between 9am-10am as our last day to run the event is on Sunday, 1/13. And Sunday, the check is in da mail with supposedly the biggest swell of the Winter surf season. 20-25 w/occ 30 feet waves (Hawaiian scale) is on it's way.

Stay tuned........
